Since we last left you (3 days ago, on Friday), we've had a busy mail box. Seems that while only a small clique at NYCHA is involved in large scale, extremely lucrative corruption, nearly every NYCHA employee has tales of the small scale stealing of Federal/State/City funds.
And many of the honest employees have just been waiting for the right opportunity to let the world know of what happens when their tax dollars are handed over to NYCHA. And, as a logical result, what an awful job the Dept. of Investigation does in it's supposed mission of rooting out that corruption.
Unfortunately, many of the stories we received were just too long for our purposes. As we need to stay a rather short newsletter, or risk tying up fax lines that have other business to attend to, we rarely exceed a 1-2 page limit on each issue. So, we've chosen a sampling of stories that are both concise and on-point. In future issues, if you folks keep supplying informative stories that we think need to be told, we'll publish them. In the very next issue, we may take one very long, but informative letter we also received and just pull quotes from it to place in our faxed issue. Then, on the website, we can provide links to the whole missive.
One way or another, we'll continue to publish stories on corruption at NYCHA until we can be sure that the fox (DOI) guarding the chicken coop (NYCHA Funds) has become a vegetarian and can be trusted not to eat the chickens!
The following gems came to us
in our Spotlight mail bag:
In the last issue (Issue 42) Spotty received feedback on the carfare reimbursement that Mike Mastriano is blatantly stealing from Housing. It appears that this is something many Supervisors are doing.
Frances Bultron, Social Services Administrator in Manhattan, has an inventive little scheme. When she receives the employees carfare reimbursement, she uses the money for her personal uses and replaces it on payday when she then distributes the money to the employees.
Because there is a delay in distributing the reimbursement to her underlings who make much less than she does, some employees don't come to work. Not only do they not have carfare to and from work, they also don't have the carfare to make the field visits that the reimbursement is meant to compensate them for!
What does Frances do anyway?
Nora Reissig-Lazzaro again - seems she's hired someone to replace Jodie Picciano-Swanson, and it's not Riva Levine, Riva has been doing Jodie's work since Nora ran her out of the Department. Riva did apply for the position but Nora decided to give it to someone else. Let's see how long Jodie's replacement will last. Why is Nora in charge of making decisions and policy for the social services units?
She is not a social worker,
and does not know what she is doing!
Why has NYCHA removed all
the guards at 90 Church?
Isn't this inviting a robbery or other (possibly violent) incident? Having guards now begin work at 5 PM and having them leave at 1 AM would appear silly.
Or has the years of Finkel and Franco throwing tax money at their friends' schemes emptied NYCHA's purse???
