Old NYCHA News!
On March 6, 2001, The Daily News, Newsday and the NY Post all covered the story of Finkel's Folly. The Conflict Of Interest Board fined the Fink $2,250 for mentioning that his daughter needed a job while the Fink was speaking with Interboro officials about contracting with other City Agencies. Fink's daughter got the job (what a surprise!), and NYCHA wound up letting Interboro's contract go on and on, long after the agreed completion date for their contract. (Please read the 3 issues of the Spotlight on the Web- mentioned below-for more on this Interboro contract scandal.)
If you were enjoying a 4th of July barbecue way back in 1998, you could have been reading the following from Issue #2 (Click Here for Issue 2) of our Spotlight:
"Now here's where the magic really begins. Interboro is still not finished. Our sources tell us that the Legal Department has advised the Board that Interboro has breached the contract, but Fink and the Board have made a "business" decision to keep Interboro's contract alive. This has made a Ms. Shulamis Levi very happy, as she works for Interboro. Of course, when Shulamis is happy, so is her daddy, the Fink!!! There will be MUCH more on Interboro, its related companies, its other Authority connections and related Campaign Finance issues in future Spotlights!"
On July 22, 1998. you could have read this in Issue 3 (Click here for Issue 3)
"The time keeping system Bruce pushed is still not up and running, just ticking, ticking and ticking away money. But at least Finkel's daughter and brother got jobs there. And, in some other shameless sweetheart deal, Interboro's poor performance with the NYCHA contract has now led to Interboro gaining other citywide contracts-like the Police one."
In Issue 32 (Click Here), on November 10, 1999, we wrote:
"One other troubling thing hits us when we see a fiasco involving Interboro. It's just too bad that Kalman (the Fink) Finkel's daughter, Ms. Shulamis Levy, couldn't help NYCHA out. She's probably very knowledgeable about Interboro's equipment.
After all, when her daddy, the Vice-Chair of NYCHA, decided to contract with Interboro, Interboro got the brilliant idea to hire her. (There's a rumor that Ms. Levy's Uncle, the Fink's brother, also punches an Interboro Time Clock) And prior to Bruce (the Gooser) Gatewood leaving NYCHA, he had remarked that Interboro was going to be his next employer.
We'll still give a good mark to NYCHA for at least starting to pay attention to this mess. But we'd sure like to hear from the Chair on why those millions of dollars produced nothing of any apparent value!"
(Ed note: At the rate it took to get this story into the mainstream newspapers, we should read of current NYCHA scandals sometime in the year 2004! )
Joanna Aniello's
still
Movin' On Up!
On February 16, Anthony Navarro resigned as General Manager. For now, a three person committee comprised of Joanna (Momma Carbonetti) Aniello, Natalie Rivers and Roy Sinclair will take over duties that normally would be performed by the General Manager.
(Well, we haven't had a scandal in the General Manager's office yet. Maybe the planned move of Ms. Aniello into that position will give us one?
Then, with luck, the 3 local daily newspapers might report on the scandal sometime in 2004!)
